Scissors and Paint

Olivia's report card stated that her "scissor skills are developing well". The speech therapist in me knows that is code for "we need to get to work on that skill"! I think that I focus so much on reading and language, I forget about gross and fine motor skills. It didn't even occur to me that we needed to have children's scissors yet. I immediately went out and got some and Olivia thought I had purchased her the moon. For several days straight, all she wanted to do was cut and cut and cut.

While I was there, I decided to also get some water colors. I had be so hesitant of doing any really messy activities. Thanks to my friend Jennifer for the awesome cookie sheet idea. I love that the mess is totally contained!

I didn't let William touch scissors until I saw the teachers allowing him to use them when he was almost four!!! Olivia is still in good shape.

Now I know it's okay to start earlier if they're ready. Caroline, at two, is already cutting along merrily. I guess parents learn right along with their first baby. It's cool. I'd rather be overprotective than not! :)
