Hvar, Croatia

Hvar is a Croatian Island, known for fancy yachts, sunshine, a crazy party scene, great restaurants and good wine!  We enjoyed only the good food and wine part!

Dinner the first night after getting off the ferry

Lavender!!
The next day we rented a car and just drove around the island with only one appointment at a winery to "worry" about.

Our first stop, Vina Tomic winery

Silly one hates posing for photos!

Inside the gorgeous tasting room

There was food pairings for all four of the wines

An absolutely stunning island.  Vineyards and olive trees with a church in the background

Vineyards, a village, and the Adriatic Sea

To get to our next winery, we had to go through this crazy tunnel.  It was only one lane--you had to wait for the green light and oncoming traffic to come out to proceed.  It is made out of nothing but chiseled rock

Vineyards all the way to the sea

Seaside winery, looking at the vineyards that go almost all the way up the mountain.  Everything has to be done by hand, as no machinery can get up there

The winery

Our friends, Steve and Mariah, told us about the restaurant located in an abandoned village just outside of the town

Our little rental car for the day

Completely abandoned

The restaurant at the top of the hill, the only thing occupied

So picturesque!

Inspecting Eliza's very loose tooth :-)

The one with the lights on is the restaurant

Our little apartment!  Great location, newly renovated, but pretty basic

Sweetness!

We booked a speed boat excursion for some island hopping

Eliza loved the choppy seas

After not being able to do the blue cave, our fist stop was swimming in a cove.  The girls were less than impressed with the cold water.  They both quickly got in and then out!

Super cool cove that was once a cave, but nature changed it to a beach

Hanging on the boat while everyone else swam to shore

This one!

Crazy boat hair from all of the spray heading into the "Green Cave"

 Inside the Green Cave

Sunlight projects in the water from a hole at the top of the cave

Our last stop on our boat tour--a small island near Hvar.  We had some wine and appetizers at a cool restaurant with this view

The beach at this island

Pulling into gorgeous Hvar

St. Stephen's Cathedral

Franciscan Monastery

Such beautiful architecture

Stopped at a wine bar before dinner--how they decant the wine

On the way to dinner, Mike grabbed the girls pizza before we ate more delicious seafood.  This restaurant was so good.  I thought I didn't like mussels, I guess I just like really fresh mussels! The girls did iPads while we ate...no babysitter date night!

The patio outside our restaurant

On the ferry to Split!
